YAZ is indicated for the prevention of pregnancy in women who elect to use an oral contraceptive. YAZ is also indicated for the treatment of symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) in women who choose to use an oral contraceptive as their method of contraception. The effectiveness of YAZ for PMDD when used for more than 3 menstrual cycles has not been evaluated. YAZ has not been evaluated for the treatment of premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

Endometrial cancer occurs in the lining (endometrium) of the uterus. Combination birth control pills, such as YAZ, have been shown to reduce endometrial cancer risk. In fact, the longer you use combination birth control pills, the more protected you are from this kind of cancer. Plus, that protection continues to increase for years after you stop using the Pill as a form of birth control. - Ovarian cancer
Similar to their effect on endometrial cancers, combination birth control pills like YAZ may help protect you from cancer of the ovaries. And the longer you use the Pill for contraception, the more protected you are. One or two years of using a combination pill, may help reduce ovarian cancer risk. After you have used a combination pill for more than ten years, you reduce ovarian cancer risk significantly. This effect lingers for many years after you stop using the Pill as your birth control method.
